March Reviews

Adam Scott and Britt Lower in the Season 2 Finale of Severance, Streaming Now on Apple TV+

SEVERANCE

I hate to over-hype a show and give you impossible expectations—but season two of Severance was absolutely phenomenal. If they don’t win every Emmy for a drama series next year, I’ll be genuinely shocked. You can binge the first two seasons (if you haven’t already) on Apple TV+.

PARADISE

A gripping sci-fi political thriller starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden. The show was originally intended as a limited series but has been renewed for a second season following its huge success. You can—and must—binge the full season on Hulu.

NO TASTE LIKE HOME

Host Antoni Porowski takes celebrity friends—Florence Pugh, Awkwafina, and James Marsden to name a few—on epic journeys to explore their ancestral and culinary roots. If you appreciate food and culture, this one’s for you. You can stream all six episodes now on Hulu.

REACHER

Reacher finally takes on an opponent his own size in the new season. This would’ve been more satisfying as a binge than a weekly release, but the finale certainly didn’t disappoint. Seasons 1-3 now streaming in full on Prime Video.

WHIPLASH (2014)

Miles Teller stars an ambitious young jazz drummer, in pursuit of rising to the top of his elite music conservatory, whose ruthless teacher played by J.K. Simmons, pushes him to the brink of his ability and his sanity. I’m incredibly late to the party, but holy shit this movie is incredible. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Picture, and Best Supporting Actor for Simmons—it’s a bit dark and intense, but comes with my highest recommendation. Netflix.

LANDMAN

Billy Bob Thorton stars in this drama series than sheds light on the roughnecks and billionares of the West Texas oil business. In true Taylor Sheridan fashion, this series is well-made, well-acted, well-written, and a bit dark, though I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of comic relief woven in. All 10 episodes of season one are streaming now on Paramount+ and the series has been renewed for a second season.

DRIVE TO SURVIVE

Well, the producers certainly had more to work with this time around than they did with the Red Bull 2023 season. They didn’t shy away from the Christian Horner drama and later focused a lot on Carlos Sainz, who I really hope can turn things around for Williams this year. Seasons 1-7 are streaming now on Netflix.

SURFACE

A thriller series about a woman trying to piece her life back together after an incident causing severe memory loss. A bit slow, but a solid mystery. Things pick up in season two as Sophie heads to London to discover more about her past and new characters are introduced. Season one streaming now on Apple TV+ with the season two finale dropping April 11.
