January Reviews

Eddie Redmayne in The Day of the Jackal, Now Streaming on Peacock
THE DAY OF THE JACKAL
Award winning actor, Eddie Redmayne, stars as an elite sniper, master of disguise, and highly trained assassin in this binge-worthy action series. The show was confirmed for a second season back in December with production set to start early this year for a 2026 release.
Season one streaming now in full on Peacock. Rotten Tomatoes 84%.
LIONESS
An under publicized Taylor Sheridan spy thriller series about a special ops CIA agent attempting to balance her personal and professional lives. Compelling performances from Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Dave Annable, and unpredictable storylines make this a must-watch.
Seasons one and two streaming now on Paramount+. Rotten Tomatoes 72%.
MISSING YOU
Harlan Coben’s latest thriller series about a detective, played by Rosalind Eleazar (Slow Horses), who finds her estranged fiancé on a dating app, leading her to reopen the mystery of her father’s murder. Sub-par acting from supporting characters and a disappointing plot twist in the end made this series just okay, though ultimately, still entertaining.
This limited series is streaming now on Netflix. Rotten Tomatoes 52%.
MAESTRO IN BLUE
The third and final season of this Greek romantic drama was released in December. Dark and intense, this series beautifully centers around music, tragedy, and forbidden love (and is expertly dubbed in English).
Seasons one through three streaming now on Netflix. Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter 83%.
QUEER EYE
Season nine premiered on December 11, and I finally had a chance to catch up with the Fab Five. I laughed, I cried (a lot), and I feel a bit like I went through some sort of intensive therapy experience. In a shocking twist, interior designer, Jeremiah Brent, replaced Bobby Berk in the new season - and absolutely crushed it.
Jeremiah, Karamo, Antoni, Jonathan, and Tan all signed new contracts with Netflix so we can expect at least three more seasons in the coming years.
SENNA
A biographical limited series following the career of Brazilian Formula One racing legend Ayrton Senna. The series of course has its fair share of deviations from real life, but is largely accurate and well executed.
Streaming now on Netflix. Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter 88%.
SKELETON CREW
Disney’s newest Star Wars spin-off series about a group of youngsters on an adventure who cross paths with a mysterious character played by Jude Law. This starts off strong and is ultimately a fun ride.
All episodes streaming now on Disney+. Rotten Tomatoes 91%.
LAID
A twisted rom-com about a young woman who discovers that everyone she has ever slept with has begun mysteriously dying. I really struggled to get into this one, and I don’t think it will be everyone’s cup of tea. By the end though, I was ready for a second season - which has yet to be confirmed.
Season one streaming now in full on Peacock. Rotten Tomatoes 97%.
THE NIGHT AGENT
Season one was a somewhat faithful adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s novel of the same name. Season two is an original story, separate from the book. For me, the new season wasn’t quite as gripping, and featured a lot of questionable casting and performances, and mediocre writing, but was entertaining nonetheless.
Seasons one and two streaming now in full on Netflix. Rotten Tomatoes 81%.
