APRIL SPOTLIGHT
Running Point Hits Its Stride in Season Two

If I’m being honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of Running Point season one, but I was happy to see a lighthearted, female-led comedy in the mix. In a streaming landscape oversaturated with dark dramas and crime thrillers, it’s an easy watch in the best way: low-stakes, a little messy, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
In season two, you can feel the show starting to settle in. Like a lot of comedies, it takes a minute to find its rhythm—and when it does, it’s noticeably better for it.
Where Running Point starts to click is in its characters. Isla (Kate Hudson) finally making a clear decision about her relationship with Lev (Max Greenfield) moves things forward instead of keeping us in that will-they-won’t-they (even though we know they won’t) limbo. There’s also more depth emerging across the ensemble, especially with Ali (Brenda Song) and Isla’s brother Sandy (Drew Tarver), whose storylines start to feel a bit more grounded. Other critics have pointed out similar growing pains, but also that the series shows real potential once it leans into its cast and sharpens its voice.
Season two debuted at #1 on Netflix with 5.3 million views in its opening weekend. Unfortunately, this was a 43% drop from season one’s opening, but the series holds strong in the top 10 making a season three renewal likely.
It’s not perfect, but it’s promising—and in a pretty heavy lineup, Running Point fills a much-needed gap. If we’re lucky enough to get a season three, I’ll definitely be tuning in.
