December Reviews

Keira Knightly in Black Doves
Shrinking: The season two finale dropped on Christmas and featured an Emmy-worthy performance from Harrison Ford. This series is a comedy with some dark elements and a lot of heart. It will make you laugh a lot, and cry a little too. A third season was confirmed after the premiere of season two, and will likely be the last according to the show’s co-creator. We can expect it late in 2025. Apple TV+.
Disclaimer: It took a couple of episodes for me to really get into this one, but once I did, I was hooked. A shocking plot-twist in the finale and stellar performances from the whole cast make this a must-watch limited series. Apple TV+.
No Good Deed: An A-List cast in a series that should’ve been a Lifetime movie. I suggest skipping this one. Netflix.
Black Doves: I loved every minute of this spy-thriller starring Keira Knightly. The series was renewed for a second season back in August, well before season one even premiered. Hopefully we can expect to see Helen Webb back in action around Christmastime. Netflix.
Bad Sisters: While season one was paced a bit slow, I’m glad I stuck with this series because season two did not disappoint. The show follows the Garvey sisters who are bound together by the premature deaths of their parents and their vows to always protect each other. I consider this a drama or mystery, but it definitely has funny moments. According to co-creator and star, Sharon Horgan, a third season is not likely, but the series has yet to be officially renewed or canceled. Apple TV+.
Carry-on: The new Die Hard? Maybe. This Christmas thriller is on track to make Netflix’s top 10 movies of all time with 97.1 million views worldwide in its first 10 days. A fresh storyline, suspense, and strong lead performances make this a must-watch.
English Teacher: A laugh-out-loud comedy about a gay English teacher at a high school in Austin, Texas and his coworkers as they try to balance the demands of students and their parents. This show perfectly manages being progressive while also poking fun at political correctness. Unfortunately, there’s no confirmation yet on a second season. Season one is streaming now on Hulu.
Dream Productions: For fans of the Inside Out movies, this four-part limited series follows the team that creates Riley’s dreams. Witty and heart-warming, this is an absolute must-watch. Disney+.
Pop Culture Jeopardy: I’m not typically a game show person, but I find this so much fun to watch and play along. Hosted by Colin Jost and streaming on Prime Video, this is a must-watch for TV, film, and/or music buffs.
Fast Friends: Also in the game show/trivia genre, this MAX original hosted by Whitney Cummings puts Friends super-fan’s knowledge to the test. I think this could have been done better, but it’s still fun to play along.

Walton Goggins & Aimee Lou Wood in The White Lotus
THE NEXT 007
2025 will be the year we learn the identity of the new James Bond since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo in 2021 with No Time to Die. The Hollywood Reporter predicts that the next bond will be Josh O’Connor (The Crown, Challengers) while others predict Aaron Taylor Johnson (Anna Karenina, The Fall Guy).
BAD MONKEY
The popular dark comedy series based on the Carl Hiassen novel of the same name has been renewed for a second season with production moving to LA where most of the cast and crew are based. Vince Vaughn will return as Yancy, though the story will be an original work. More on that here.
PRINCESS DIARIES
Miracles happen! Anne Hathaway with Disney, and Somewhere Pictures revealed that development on the third installment is moving along with Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians) signing on to direct.
STRANGER THINGS
Production has finally wrapped on the final season as of December 20, nearly a year after it began on January 8, 2024. Season five will pick up more than a year after where season four left off and will likely be released late in 2025 due to the show’s lengthy post-production period.
THE WHITE LOTUS
The hit HBO drama series returns this February with season three. Plot details are being kept quiet, but creator Mike White has said season three will be a “satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.” You can check out the trailer here.
VERITY
Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett will star opposite Anne Hathaway in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling thriller, Verity. Michael Showwalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) is signed on to direct the Amazon MGM film planned for a theatrical release.
