MAY REVIEWS
To Binge or Not to Binge

Benito Skinner and Wally Baram in Overcompensating, Now on Prime Video
Overcompensating
Former high school football player and golden boy, closeted Benny becomes fast friends with Carmen on their first day of college. Together the two navigate his sexuality, horrible hookups, and fake IDs. This show is a hilarious and fun breath of fresh air with heart and sincerity. An absolute must-watch. All episodes of season one are streaming now on Prime Video with no news yet on a second season.
The Studio
Matt Remick (Seth Rogan) is the newly appointed head of Continental Studios. Desperate for celebrity approval, he and his executive team at the movie studio must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions. The series is laugh-out-loud funny and packed with epic cameos of actors and directors playing themselves. A must-watch for anyone remotely interested in the film industry. All episodes now streaming on Apple TV+ and renewed for a second season!
Hacks
The award-winning comedy series wrapped up season four at the end of May, and it did not disappoint. If you’re not familiar, the show follows the relationship that forms between a legendary comic (Jean Smart), and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old comedy writer (Hannah Einbinder) — and they have a lot to learn from each other. If you haven’t already, give this a watch. Seasons 1-4 now streaming on HBO Max and renewed for a fifth season.
Sirens
A new limited series thriller starring Meghann Fahy as Devon Dewitt, older sister to Simone (Milly Alcock), who hasn’t been answering her calls. Concerned, Devon shows up at the lavish seaside estate where Simone has been working, and discovers her sister’s troubling relationship with her new boss. Intriguing and well-paced with strong performances, this is the perfect summer drama to sink your teeth into. Streaming now on Netflix.
Wear Whatever The F You Want
The antithesis of TLC’s What Not to Wear (2003-2013), Stacy London and Clinton Kelly have reunited in a new streaming series to help people find their unique style. With their highly publicized feud in the past, the duo is stronger than ever. The new series offers a hefty dose of nostalgia while providing a modern take on fashion and personal style. You can stream the full first season now on Prime Video.
The Four Seasons
A new series from Tina Fey about the decades-long friendship between three married couples is tested when one divorces, complicating their tradition of quarterly weekend getaways. Strong performances and a solid storyline make this well worth watching but it should be noted — the series is just as much a drama as it is a comedy. Streaming now on Netflix and renewed for a second season.
The Accountant 2
Forensic accountant Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) teams up with his estranged but highly lethal brother (Job Bernthal) to track down mysterious assassins. Genuinely fun to watch, this is almost equal parts comedy and action — and I enjoyed every minute. Now playing in theaters.
Nonnas
After losing his beloved mother, Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn) risks everything to honor her by opening an Italian restaurant with actual grandmothers, as the chefs. Cute, sweet, and surprisingly based on a true story. Streaming now on Netflix.
Past Lives (2023)
Two deeply connected childhood friends, are separated after one’s family emigrates to the US from South Korea. Decades later, they are reunited to confront destiny and the choices they’ve made while apart. Beautifully nuanced and culturally rich, this has my highest recommendation. Streaming now on Netflix.
Single Parents (2018-2020)
An ensemble comedy following four single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-olds. Leighton Meester stars as one of the parents with several cameos by her husband, Adam Brody, playing her ex and father of her child. This is a great show if you’re looking for something light and fun — and the kids are genuinely funny. Streaming now on Hulu.
The Kingsman (2014, 2017, 2021)
This action-packed spy film franchise is so much fun. With a certain sense of humor and British quirkiness, these were much funnier than I expected. Far-fetched plot lines and spy gadgets somehow only add to their charm. Newly added to Hulu, give these a try if you haven’t already.
