SEPTEMBER REVIEWS
In Our YA Era

The Runarounds, Now Streaming on Prime Video

From teen love triangles to supernatural twists, September proved we’re firmly in our Young Adult era, with streaming dominated by coming-of-age stories that had everyone talking.

  • ‘The Runarounds’: Based on the real-life band, Prime Video’s new drama series follows a group of high school graduates from Wilmington, North Carolina, as they come together one summer to form a rock band. While set in present day, the band culture element of the show offers a dose of nostalgia to make any Warped Tour kid feel at home.

  • ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’: The show that broke the internet—you know this one. Full series now streaming on Prime Video.

  • ‘Wednesday’: After an iconic and wildly successful first season, Netflix’s Wednesday seems to have fallen victim to quite the sophomore slump. Season two brought villain recycling, underdeveloped subplots, and a disjointed, crowded narrative. Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers still managed to deliver stellar performances to keep us looking forward to season three.

  • ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’: What is it about brother love triangles that we all seem to find so addicting? This Netflix original series follows Jackie, a city girl who moves in with a family of ten brothers after tragedy upends her life. The second season doesn’t push the story forward much, but small-town drama and romance still make it a fun watch.

OTHER NOTABLES:

  • Best overall series: ‘The Terminal List: Dark Wolf’ (Prime Video, S1)

  • Most underrated comedy: ‘Upload’ (Prime Video, S1-4)

  • Best film you never saw: ‘Lady Bird’ (Available to rent on Prime Video)
