SERIES SPOTLIGHT
Ride or Die

Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham in Ride or Die | Prime Video

I went into this one with pretty low expectations because I assumed the premise would feel a little too over-the-top, but it ended up being a genuinely fun watch. The script is sharper than I expected, and while the story itself isn't particularly groundbreaking, the cast elevates every scene. There really isn't a weak link, and the chemistry between Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer is pitch-perfect.

As someone who loved Waddingham in Ted Lasso, it was especially fun to watch her trade Rebecca Welton's power suits for the role of an international assassin. She clearly has a blast with it, and it's a reminder of just how much range she has.

I also have to give Prime Video credit for trying something that feels a little different. Female-led action comedies are definitely rare, and what I appreciated most is that Ride or Die never lets romance overshadow its central story. The characters' love interests exist, but they're never the driving force—in fact, they often become obstacles that the women have to overcome rather than people who rescue or define them. At its heart, this is a story about friendship, and the series is stronger because it never loses sight of that.

The finale leaves plenty of room for a second season, and I'd definitely tune in if Prime Video decides to renew it. It's not a must-watch, but it's an entertaining, breezy binge with enough charm and personality to make it worth the ride.
